Basketball is arguably Woodstock's most-loved sport, catching the imaginations of students from the elementary up to the senior level. There are basketball courts in most of the student residences, and the school's new gymnasium features a magnificent full-size basketball court (with rollaway bleachers) as well as a mini basketball court.
Although students play basketball recreationally all year long, the inter-house basketball competitions begin from the Sub-Junior level upwards by the end of February. The best performers in these competitions determine the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior (Varsity) Basketball teams for inter-school competitions.
One of the highlights of the Woodstock sporting calendar is the Win Mumby Invitational Basketball Tournament, which has been hosted by Woodstock almost every year since 1998. Each year's tournament features around eight boys' and eight girls' teams from schools around the country.
The basketball team also participates in other tournaments such as the Afzal Khan Invitational at the Doon School, the Mussoorie Inter-School Basketball Tournament, and in friendly matches with other schools such as the American Embassy School and the Miri Piri Academy. Intermediate and Junior teams also take part in inter-school matches with local teams as well as teams down in New Delhi.
