Dr Seuss would be impressed!

Library Learning

Sarah Colwell, senior school librarian, with the help of Meenu Khan, junior school librarian has introduced a monthly newsletter filled with fascinating reading. This month they focus on Women's History month celebrating literary accomplishments of woman from the past. Other articles in this month's issue include an article from former Dorm Matron Dorothy Yoder Nyce who worked at Woodstock over 50 years ago. Dorothy recently visited and shared reflections on her time here. A published author of Strength, Struggle & Solidarity: India's Women published in 1989, Dorothy has also written several other books including Jesus's Clear Call to Justice in 1990 and Multifaith Musing: Essays & Exchanges in 2010.

New books introduced to the Library are also featured, this month celebrating women in history including the inspiring Aung San Suu Kyi: a Biography. This new account of the inspiring life of Burmese pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate will be enjoyed by seniors and staff.

In the Junior School Library they celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday with hat competitions, dressing up, poster competitions and poetry writing along with several other children's authors and their books. Ms Khan runs the Book Club each Thursday afternoon and introduces new books and holds discussions about the books and even writes reviews. This book club is extremely popular in junior school for so many of our students who are fascinated by books and love to read. Classes in Library in both junior and senior school bring books to life at Woodstock thanks to the talent of both Librarians and their innovative approach to student learning. Excellent teachers produce excellent students and this can be seen by the increased interest of the students and the culture of inquiry created.

This is the second month of 'Library Learning' an incredibly informative newsletter circulated to all students and staff. At Woodstock we are so fortunate to have such talented Teacher/ Librarians as Sarah and Meenu. Their enthusiasm for reading and learning helps instill in our students a love of books that will last a lifetime. Follow this link to the second issue of Library Learning.
